Victoria “Vicki” Ferrera, 81 of Wilton, died peacefully on Sunday, August 11, 2024.
Victoria was born in Newark, NJ on September 24, 1942, a first-generation daughter of the late Albert and Clarice (Neno) Freire who emigrated from Portugal. She grew up in Newark’s “Down Neck” neighborhood, attending Lafayette Street School and East Side High School. Victoria earned a B.A. in English from Newark State Teachers College in 1965 and embarked on a 30-year career with the Newark Board of Education teaching high school English.
After retiring in 1995, she pursued many other interests, including reading, shopping, mastering her use of an Ipad, and going places with her long-time partner, Philip Ganguzza. Most of all, she enjoyed time spent with her beloved grandchildren, Andrew and Amanda.
She was predeceased by her husband, Donato V. Ferrera, and her parents Albert and Clarice Freire.
She is survived by her daughter Dana Filippelli and her husband David of Ridgefield, CT, grandchildren Andrew and Amanda, and partner, Philip Ganguzza of Wilton, CT.
Family and friends will be received on Friday, August 16, 2024 from 8:45 AM to 9:45 AM at Kane Funeral Home; 25 Catoonah Street, Ridgefield. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, August 16, 2024 at 10:00 AM in Saint Mary's Church; 55 Catoonah Street, Ridgefield. Interment will follow in Saint Mary's Cemetery; 110 North Street, Ridgefield.
