Tom married Nancy (Giardini) Riedy on June 14, 1969. By any stretch of the imagination, Tom was an ‘odd duck’ in my family. My mother could not understand how Tom could talk about so many different topics in such detail. However, my father recognized that he had a kindred spirit in Tom. Needless to say, they got along well.

Kids and dogs (except Sophie) loved Tom. He taught them (the kids, not the dogs) to waterski, making sure there was always some achievement for each skier. As a result, the kids often invited Tom to come out to play.

Tom played sports, the solitary ones, like track and field and swimming, at school. He often gave away his trophies. He was an exceptional, patient coach. He taught me to play golf and we remained happily married.

Motorcycles and boats were his passions. Over many years, he owned 13 different brands of motorcycles, appreciating each for its unique qualities. And, boats and boating were life long activities he carried over from childhood.

Tom was intelligent, street-smart, kind, generous, perceptive, aggravatingly stubborn, loving, occasionally clueless, empathetic, inquisitive, a voracious reader. But, he never did quite get the hang of wind surfing.

Services were held privately.
