Thomas Patrick "Pat" McGovern

Thomas Patrick McGovern, “Pat”, 80, of Ridgefield, died peacefully on Friday, October 11, 2024. He was the loving husband of the late Nancy (Lynch) McGovern.

Mr. McGovern was born on April 28, 1944 in Cheyenne, Wyoming; a son of the late Harold and Mary (Burns) McGovern. Pat was active in sports in his youth, playing football, baseball and basketball. He was also musically talented and enjoyed singing (loudly), as well as playing piano and the bass. After completing his engineering degree at the University of Illinois, he worked at a number of companies over the years including US Steel, Baxter, 3M, Omega, Lennox Hill and US Surgical. 

Mr. McGovern was a longtime resident of Ridgefield. In his spare time, he was active with Ridgefield Little League and enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s activities including softball, baseball, football and swimming. He also enjoyed taking care of his furry grandchildren, Pudge and Turbo who will miss him greatly. Pat loved ice cream, and never missed an opportunity to include it in every celebration. Pat was a devoted Catholic his entire life, serving as an altar boy, singing in choirs to being a founding family of St. Elizabeth Seton Church. His faith was strong. 

Mr. McGovern is survived by his children: Brian McGovern and his wife, Janet; Michael McGovern and his wife, Lisa; Stacey McGovern, and Scott McGovern and his wife, Kelly. Mr. McGovern is also survived by his grandchildren: Morgan, Devin, Garrett, Seamus, Cavan, Declan, and Paxton. He is also survived by his brother in law Terry Leahy. In addition to his parents, his wife, Nancy; Mr. McGovern was predeceased by his daughter, Elizabeth McGovern and his sister, Kathy Leahy. 

Family and friends will be received on Tuesday, October 15, 2024 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Kane Funeral Home; 25 Catoonah Street, Ridgefield. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, October 16, 2024 at 10:00 AM in Saint Joseph’s Church; 370 Main Street, Danbury. Interment will follow in Saint Peter’s Cemetery, 71 Lake Avenue Extension, Danbury.
