Tanios Moussa Ataya, 93, of Danbury, died peacefully on Friday, February 21, 2025 while surrounded by his loving family.
Tanios was born in Lebanon on December 20, 1931; a son of the late Moussa and Najla (Corban) Ataya. Tanios endured hardship growing up through WWII and losing his father at very young age. He acquired several trades by observing others. He was an expert builder who had a passion for construction. He was one the most sought-after mason due to his unique skills. He married the love of his life Najmi (Darazi) in 1965 and raised five beautiful children. He moved to the United States in 1997 to provide support to his children as they pursued their careers.
Tanios was a family man. He was full of energy, enthusiasm and life. He was always there for his children. He provided guidance and support in all their endeavors, remaining involved until his final days.
Tanios is survived by his wife, Najmi; as well as his sons John and his son Anthony, Ziad and his wife Rania (Nehme) and their children Christina and Angelina, Moussa and his wife Manal (Corban) and their children Celina and Christian, and daughters Marie and her husband Mario Aboujaoude and their children Lily and Patrick, Randa and her daughter Kayel, his brothers Chafic and family, Elias and family and sisters Olivia Haddad and family and Aida Abi-Zeid and family. Tanios was predeceased by his parents Moussa Ataya and Najla (Corban) Ataya and his sister Marie Ataya.
The Rite of Burial will be celebrated on Friday, February 28, 2025 at 11:00 AM in Saint Ann Melkite Catholic Church; 181 Clapboard Ridge Road, Danbury. Interment will follow in Wooster Cemetery, Danbury. Family and friends will be received on Friday morning at Saint Ann Church from 10:00 AM until the time of the funeral service.
