Sonia Small, 92, of Ridgefield, wife of the late Alfred L. Small died on Friday, May 28, 2021, at Jersey City Medical Center, Jersey City, New Jersey. Mrs. Small was born in Brooklyn, New York, on June 22, 1928, the daughter of the late William and Vivian Kinstler. She attended New York schools and was a self-employed artist and interior designer. A resident of Ridgefield since 1971 coming from Baldwin, L.I., NY., Mrs. Small owned and operated several local businesses for which she was well known, namely, Sonia’s Finishing Touch, an interior design studio, The Culinary Connection Catering Company, and Sonia’s Chocolaterie. An accomplished painter using acrylics, oils, pen & ink as well as reverse glass painting, Mrs. Small was an instructor with the painting program at Founders Hall. She was a member of the local bridge group first at the Community Center and later Founders Hall as well as a volunteer at the Keeler Tavern. Mrs. Small is survived by a son, Richard and his wife Rose of Jersey City, NJ, a daughter Sarajane Belkadi of New Rochelle, NY, 2 grandchildren, Jeremy Small and Hicham Belkadi, and a great-grandson William Small. Mrs. Small was awaiting the arrival of her great-granddaughter to be Sara Jeanne. The family will receive friends in the Kane Funeral Home, 25 Catoonah St., Ridgefield on Wednesday from 11 am to 12 noon with Word of Remembrance at 11:30 am. Interment will take place at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Hawthorne, NY on Wednesday at 1:30 pm. Contributions in Mrs. Small’s memory may be made to the Ridgefield Guild of Artists, 34 Halpin Lane or to Founders Hall, 193 Danbury Rd., both of Ridgefield, CT 06877.
