Sheila K. (Allen) Brooks, (ret. Danbury Police Department), 65, of Danbury, wife of Roger H. Brooks, (ret. Danbury Police Department), died on Saturday, March 16, 2024.
She was born in Danbury on December 31, 1958, the eldest daughter of Kathleen (Jackson) Dowling of Bethel and the late Robert R. Allen Jr. of Dunnellon, FL.
Originally from Bethel, Sheila attended Bethel schools and graduated from Bethel High School with the Class of 1976. She attended Western Connecticut State University for several years.
Officer Brooks was appointed to the Danbury Police Department in 1980. After serving with distinction for 27 years, she retired in 2007.
When not on duty and throughout her retirement, she enjoyed passionate political debate, adventurous travel, a good book, watching films with family and friends, and many home design projects including furniture refinishing and woodworking. Sheila was an avid gardener, with a particular fondness for her gorgeous peonies. She loved to see and hear the wildlife in her backyard where she created a nature sanctuary. Her love of music and dancing brought joy to many, as well as the delicious meals she loved to prepare and share with others. Sheila also had a keen eye for fashion, and was known for her very stylish outfits that were always perfectly accessorized.
Provincetown, Massachusetts was where Sheila and Roger celebrated their anniversary every year. Many fond memories were made there over the years, and the family will always be grateful to the Provincetown community that welcomed them every year.
Sheila’s laugh is legendary. Whether it was sharing a good story, reading a comic, or just plain silliness, it didn’t take much to make her laugh. That is how her family and friends would like everyone to remember her, laughing.
In addition to her husband Roger of thirty-two years of Danbury and her mother Kathleen Dowling of Bethel, Sheila is survived by her stepmother Elizabeth of New Hampshire, stepson Michael of Southbury, stepdaughter Holly of Virginia, sister Sheryl of Louisiana, sister Monica of Waterbury, sister Jennifer of California, sister Christine of New Hampshire, sister Caitlin of Massachusetts, brother Mark of New Hampshire, brother Craig of Vermont, aunt Lynn of Canton, twelve nieces and nephews, and several close friends.
Friends will be received in the Jowdy-Kane Funeral Home, 9 Granville Ave., Danbury, on Saturday, March 23, 2024, from 2 PM to 5 PM. Funeral services will be private and at the direction of the family.
