Ruth Locke Obituary

Ruth Sylvia Locke, 86, of Bethel, mother of Gordon Locke Jr. (Diane), Debbie Tangredi (Mark), and Cheryl Graham, died on Thursday, August 13, 2020, at Danbury Hospital. Ms. Locke was born in Danbury, a daughter of the late John and Anna (Holic) Fusek. She graduated from Danbury High School with the Class of 1951 and the Yale School of Nursing, New Haven, CT. Her career in nursing was concentrated primarily upon emergency room care as well as intensive care both at Yale-New Haven Hospital and Danbury Hospital. During her nursing career, Ms. Locke participated in a pilot program that initiated and advanced women’s roles in the operating room. Upon her retirement from nursing, Ms. Locke became a Teacher’s Aide for the Head Start Program of Danbury expressing her great love for children. She was an active member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church of Danbury where she enjoyed being in the choir and bell choir. She was also a volunteer at the Dorothy Day House of Danbury helping to feed the homeless. Ruth loved to spend time visiting with her family and friends; most especially her grandson, Trevor Lamphier. She will be sorely missed. In addition to her children, spouses and grandson, Ms. Locke is survived by two sisters, Alice Jurenka and Irene Fusek; two brothers, Emil Fusek (Jacqueline) and Paul Fusek (Mary Sue); an additional grandson, Christopher Graham; sister in law, Jean Fusek; lifelong friend, Paula Scozzafava and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. In addition to her parents, Ms. Locke was predeceased by three brothers, John Fusek, Stephen Fusek and Edward Fusek Sr. and by four sisters, Anna Fusek, Betty Duda, Mildred Fusek and Christine Garvey. Ruth’s family will receive relatives and friends at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 44 Spring St., Danbury on Thursday, August 20, 2020 from 10:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Funeral services will immediately follow with Rev. Kathleen Mills officiating. Due to the pandemic crisis, hand sanitizing, facial coverings and social distancing are required for attendance. In lieu of flowers, Contributions may be made to any of the following charities: American Cancer Society, Wounded Warrior Project, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. Jowdy-Kane Funeral Home, 9-11 Granville Ave., Danbury is in charge of arrangements.
