Robert Osterhus Obituary

Robert J. Osterhus (“Bob”) of New York passed away on March 15, 2021. Born to Phyllis and Levi Osterhus of Minneapolis MN in 1939, Bob was a graduate of Yale and MIT.  Survived by his children, Edward Osterhus (Stephanie) and Elizabeth Osterhus; by three grandchildren, Eric Osterhus, Theodore Fleuette and Margaret Fleuette. Predeceased by his parents, his brother James Osterhus, and his former wife, Muffy.

Prior to his retirement, Bob was founder and CEO of Orion Consultants, a financial management consulting firm based in Manhattan.

Bob was well-known for his enthusiastic generosity, whether to prominent non-profits or to individuals who had the good fortune to cross his path. Throughout the world are countless cab drivers, doormen, waiters, and other service industry professional who have benefitted enormously from his outsized tips, in support of their endeavors.

An avid contributor to various organizations including Save the Children, Caumsett State Park, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Bob sought opportunities to donate his time and talent as well.

At Christmas time, Bob enjoyed playing the role of Santa – arriving with overstuffed bags, and happily distributing magnificent gifts to his grandchildren. At Halloween, Bob’s apartment at his Upper East Side Manhattan residence was the most popular destination – adorned with incredible décor each year, Bob handed out fistfuls of candy and UNICEF coins to every Trick or Treater who stopped by to visit the “Friendly Warlock on the 17th Floor.”

In his later years, Bob was a volunteer cheerleader and chauffeur to his grandchildren, driving them to their after-school activities and attending their sports games. His loving and eccentric presence will be greatly missed.
