Robert Glennan Jr. Obituary

Bob has left his legacy of love in all of us. His sense of humor, faithfulness and moral compass will comfort and guide us forever. Images of him dancing will always make us proudly smile.

Bob was a loving husband and soul-mate to Janet, whom he mustered the courage to ask for a date as sophomores at Colby College, then dedicated the rest of his life to nurturing their relationship until she predeceased him 3 years ago. Bob was a devoted father to his children, always prioritizing family over power or prestige. Working in sales to provide for his family, he made routine family dinners a time of deep connection and humor. Grampy to his 12 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren, Bob never stopped playing. His competitive spirit remained strong and is in our bones. Baseball and basketball at Hotchkiss and Colby, cards and board games on family vacations, shooting under his age into his 80s on the golf course with life-long friends, games of H-O-R-S-E in the driveway and always throwing a football on the beach with grandkids, including last summer.

Bob was born on September 7, 1941 in Queens, NY, to Elizabeth Murray and Robert Paul Glennan. Voted the superlative of “most pious” in high school, Bob was a faithful parishioner at Sacred Heart/St. Patrick’s for 60 years and lived his life serving others in faith. He took troubled teens under his wing, led young adults on their spiritual journey, helped couples prepare for marriage and guided them in their ongoing efforts to honor that bond, and cherished his men’s prayer group for decades.  At 81, Bob began sharing his grace with elementary schoolers at GrassRoots Academy in Danbury where he proudly volunteered as a reading and homework buddy.

Bob’s extended family and friends remember Bob’s belly laugh, welcoming nature, quiet voice and attentive ears, and how his abiding faith transformed their own lives and marriages.

Bob was predeceased by the love of his life and his sister, Nancy Barry, and is survived by his children, Karen and Joe, Kristin and Ross, Mary Beth and Chuck and Michael and Tammy; his cherished grandchildren Matthew, Corey, Kelsey, Ben, Brian, Cara, Kyle, Corey, Julia, Michael, Ryan, Cashel, Lucan, Rowen and Aiofe; his great-grandchildren Andersyn, Alasdair and Maxwell; and his many adoring nieces and nephews.

After Bob’s valiant fight against a terrible disease, he died peacefully surrounded by family. They express their deep gratitude to Lindell of Right at Home for becoming Bob’s last best friend, and RVNA Hospice. Heaven gained one of our best men and Bob surely was met with the same bear hug he generously shared with all of us.

Family and friends will be received on Tuesday, March 17, 2026 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Kane Funeral Home; 25 Catoonah Street, Ridgefield. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, March 18, 2026 at 11:00 AM in Saint Patrick's Church; 169 Black Rock Turnpike, Redding Ridge. Interment will take place privately.
