Robert Curtis Fish, 83, of Ridgefield, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 27, 2021 at Bethel Health Care following a short illness. Known as “Bucko” to all who knew him, he was born on August 18, 1937, to the late Raymond E. Fish and Grace Seaman Fish in Ridgefield, CT; and graduated from Ridgefield High School as a member of the class of 1955.
Following high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he served aboard the submarine tender ship USS Howard W. Gilmore (AS-16), and the submarine rescue ship USS Petrel (ASR-14).
Upon his return to Ridgefield, he drove school buses and worked as a clerk for the Postal Service. He was later hired by the Town of Ridgefield Highway Department as a truck driver, a position he served with distinction for 35 years. He was at his happiest plowing and sanding the streets on the south side of town during a “good old-fashioned nor'easter”. His career came full circle when he returned to driving school buses for the Katonah Lewisboro School District. Following in his father’s footsteps, he joined the Ridgefield Volunteer Fire Department in 1960 and rose through the ranks to 1st Assistant Chief and remained active for 40 years.
He is survived by his sons: Robert O. Fish of Bethel, CT, and Michael R. Fish of New Milford, CT, and his four grandchildren Anthony, Matthew, Taylor, and Merisa.
Family and friends will be received on Sunday, June 6, 2021, from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Kane Funeral Home; 25 Catoonah Street, Ridgefield. Interment will take place privately at Greenville Rural Cemetery in Greenville, NY.
