Richard Edward McEvoy, 82, of Ridgefield, CT, died peacefully on Thursday, April 3, 2025. Richard was previously a long time resident of Bonita Springs and Naples, FL, prior to transitioning up to CT in the last few years, to live closer to family.
Born October 17, 1942, in the Bronx, NY, Richard was the son of Edward and May (Jacox) McEvoy. He was a graduate of Christopher Columbus High School, and City College of NY, where he studied marketing and finance. Richard was also a graduate of Officer Candidate School for the United States Army.
A combination of a strong business acumen and personal creativity landed him great career success in the wine and spirits industry. Richard was a retired Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Carillon Importers. Much of his career success was due to the highly successful and well known ad campaign and marketing of Absolut Vodka, among other top shelf brands such as Grand Marnier, and Bombay Gin.
Richard enjoyed an early retirement from the corporate world, and his life was comprised of a series of moves across the United States, from New York, New Jersey, Idaho, Tennessee, Pennsylvania, Florida and Connecticut, leaving a lasting legacy amongst the many relationships and friendships forged over the years during the respective phases of his life.
Friends and family will remember Richard for his commitment to religiously following the trends and events in the political and financial worlds. He cherished his friends and family and made it a priority to maintain those connections through frequent trips to visit those close to him, regular phone calls to check in, and attending or hosting annual reunions. He had a good sense of humor, and displayed enjoyment in making others laugh.
He was patriotic, a believer in the American dream, and everything good that our flag stands for; he had a great respect for those serving in law enforcement and our military. Richard had an aesthetic awareness for the world around him, influencing his appreciation for the arts, whether it be displaying a rare or unique piece of artwork in his home, or enhancing the design of his residence. He was fortunate to experience a great deal of travel throughout the US and around the world; some of his favorite and most talked about destinations being Spain, Ireland, Mexico, Italy, Alaska, and Sun Valley, Idaho.
He had a great love of music from various genres inclusive of doo-wop, rock-n-roll, jazz and opera, for which he enjoyed listening to and attending concerts with friends or family. Richard was also known to be able to sing quite well himself, and carry quite the tune of his own. When growing up, Richard was an avid bowler and it became a sport and activity that he enjoyed with his daughter and later in life with his grandchildren; the four of whom also got Pop-Pop to engage in X-Box bowling on their tv at home.
Richard’s final residence in CT allowed more time with his grandchildren whom he loved dearly. “Pop-Pop” will always be one of their biggest fans and supporters, always wanting them to feel loved and supported in their life endeavors and wanting to celebrate and reward their achievements. He is remembered equally by his daughter Cara, for providing the same love, encouragement and support throughout her childhood and into her adult years. He will be missed greatly but forever in our hearts.
Richard is survived by his daughter, Cara Young and her husband, Rob, and their four children, Emma, James, Averie and Elise. Richard is also survived by his sisters, Joyce Abrahamsen and Phyllis Limperatos, as well as several nieces and nephews and their families. In addition, Richard is also survived by his former spouse, Donna McEvoy, and many dear lifelong friends. Finally, Richard is survived by close friend and companion Judi Franz, who provided him with unconditional support when living with the growing challenges of his diagnosis in recent years.
In addition to his parents, Richard was predeceased by his sister, Lois Donofrio, nephew, Edward Esposito, and former life partner of several years, Despina (Dee) Page.
Family and friends will be received on Sunday, April 13, 2025 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Kane Funeral Home; 25 Catoonah Street, Ridgefield. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, April 14, 2025 at 10:00 AM in Saint Mary's Church; 55 Catoonah Street, Ridgefield. Interment will take place privately.
