Philip J. Mercede

Phillip J. Mercede, 84, a longtime resident of Ridgefield, husband of 61 years to Evelyn (Mezzo) Mercede, died on Sunday, December 27, 2020. Mr. Mercede was born in Norwalk CT. on June 24, 1936, the son of Frank and Jennie( Caruso) Mercede. He attended Norwalk schools and was a 1955 graduate of Norwalk High School. A mason by trade, he was also a long-time employee of the Ridgefield Highway Department and a lifelong member of the Laurel Athletic Club of Norwalk CT. In his spare time as well as being a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, he loved to tinkerer fixing anything that broke in the house and playing cards. Phil also was a devoted sports fan. Especially of the New York Yankees. As well as his wife, he is survived by his daughter Darlene Mercede Casazza( Skip), a brother Daniel of San Diego CA. (Virginia)and his granddaughters, Brittany Tranchida( Adam), Daniele Featherstone, Randi Featherstone, Nicole Mercede, Alexandra Mercede, and Carly Mercede. As well as nieces, nephews and many many friends. He is predeceased by his son William and two brothers Augostino and Frank Mercede. Due to concerns about social gatherings affecting us all at this time, all funeral services will be private for the immediate family. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Ridgefield Food Bank - 400 Main Street, Ridgefield. Please note that contributions should be grocery store gift cards or cash/checks as food donations are not being accepted during the COVID crisis.
