Michael Witte Obituary

Michael T. Witte, of Hidden Brook Farm, Redding, CT, passed peacefully on Tuesday, February 16, 2021, surrounded by his loving family.

Affectionately known as “Howdy,” Mike Witte was born September 30th, 1939 in New York, NY, to Henry J. and Gladys (Riordan) Witte of Larchmont, NY.  He attended Larchmont schools, Iona Preparatory School and Notre Dame University.  While attending Notre Dame Mike was a manager of the Fighting Irish football team. He later went on to the Parsons School of Business and New York University where he attained his MBA.

Mike served proudly in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War era and was an active supporter of U.S. military veterans. He began his career in estate planning and wealth management with Citicorp, which then became Chancellor Capital Management, and later Invesco Private Capital, retiring in 2018 at the age of 79. Mike was proud to call Redding his home for the past forty-six years and loved supporting his local community. He was a faithful member of St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church of Redding Ridge, CT.  Over the years Mike adopted many dogs in need, most recently Labrador Retrievers, and could be seen chauffeuring them around locally in his Red Jeep known to many as the LabCab.  He enjoyed tennis, golf, paddle tennis, swimming in the waters of Nantucket, sailing, tractors, cars, and walking his dogs around the property he loved passionately. He was devoted to his career and loyal to his clients.  He was a dedicated fan of the New York Yankees and the New York Giants.

Most especially, Mike enjoyed the time shared with his family and friends. He is survived by his wife, Carol R. Witte, a son, Michael H. Witte, three daughters, Christine Riordan Witte Fuss, Cynthia M. Witte Conrad (John Conrad) and Meghan M. Witte (Nancy Reagan), and seven grandchildren, Soyer, Elias, Zachary, Alex, Natalie, Carson and Michael J., a brother, Stephen Witte, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mike was predeceased by a sister, Eileen Louis Witte Dinolfo.

Due to the concerns facing us all at this time regarding social gatherings, a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Patrick Church, Redding Ridge, CT, and interment at Kensico Cemetery, Valhalla, NY will be held privately for the immediate family.

Contributions in Mr. Witte's memory may be made to The New Pond Farm Education Center, 101 Marchant Rd., West Redding, CT 06896, or to the Pets for Patriots, 218 East Park Avenue, Suite 543, Long Beach, NY  11561.  www.petsforpatriots.org  Please include your name and address and the gift is In Memory of Michael T. Witte.

A Celebration of Life will be announced when we all can once again be together safely.
