Michael Joseph O'Brien, a devoted family man, skilled craftsman, and longtime resident of the Bronx, New York, passed away peacefully on October 1, 2025, in Bethel at the age of 81. Born on August 16, 1944, he was the beloved son of the late John T. O'Brien and Julia (Sutton) O'Brien.
In October 1967, Mike married the love of his life, Marguerite (Wewer) O'Brien, and together they built a beautiful life and raised three sons: Michael (Suzanne), Dan (Christine), and Ed (Jazmin). He was a doting and proud grandfather to Breana (Everett), Mariana, Suzanne, Michael III, Kayla, Jillian, Mauricio and Gabriella, and his first great-grandchild, Everett.
Mike dedicated over 40 years of his life as a union plumber in New York City. Beyond his work, he had a great love for all types of animals and was known for his wonderful sense of humor and unwavering commitment to his family. He was immensely proud of all their accomplishments.
He is survived by his devoted wife, his three sons and their spouses, his grandchildren, great-grandchild, his sisters Judy Doherty, Peggy Buratowski, and JoAnn Major, and his brother Neil. He also leaves behind numerous loving nieces and nephews.
Mike was predeceased by his parents; his brothers William, John, and Donald; his sister Maureen (Sister Julia O'Brien OP); and his grandson Joseph.
He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
A funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday, October 6, 2025 at 10:00 AM in Saint Mary's Church; 55 Catoonah Street, Ridgefield. Entombment will follow in Saint Raymond's Cemetery; Bronx, NY. There will be no calling hours.
