Michael Devine Obituary

Michael J Devine, of Bethlehem, died unexpectedly at Waterbury Hospital on September 14th 2025. At age 73.

He was born in Danbury to the late (Capt) Daniel J and Anna (Dzamko) Devine on November 21, 1951 and attended St Joseph’s School and Immaculate High School (Class of 69).  He graduated from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh with a Bachelor of Arts in 1973

He worked for Harvey Electronics in Norwalk as a systems business manager from 1980-86.  After that he was employed at Pioneer-Harvey/Agilsys Inc in Shelton from 1986 -2006.

Throughout his adult live Michael was involved in a myriad of ways in the life of his community.  His focus was always on community service, safety and planning especially in regard to emergency management.  He applied his very substantial skills, knowledge and talent as well as his indomitable personality to as he would say “getting things done”

After moving to Bethlehem in 1985, Michael joined the Bethlehem Volunteer Fire Department in 1987 and wholeheartedly embraced his new town.  He was a life member of the Fire Department, serving as firefighter, EMT, Captain and even Fire Chief.   He also served as a deputy Fire Marshal for the Town of Woodbury from 2004 to the present.

Michael was active in Emergency Management serving as Bethlehem’s Emergency Management Director from 2007 until his passing.  He was also a member of Region V Department of Emergency Management and Homeland Security Steering Committee serving as chair lately, on the Board of Directors for Northwest Public Safety Communications, Inc. and a member of the Naugatuck Valley COG Emergency Planning Committee.

Michael was also active in the Region 14 School District serving on the Board Education from 2014 to 2023.  He was on the Regions Finance, School Safety, and Negotiations Commitees during his tenure as well as serving as Treasurer in 2014.

Michael’s involvement in the community life of Bethlehem also included elected office.  He serve on the Board of Finance from 2001 to 2013 and as Treasurer (1989-2001).   He was also a member of the Elderly Tax Abatement Committee.  As a member of the Republican Town Committee, he was also Treasurer until his passing.

Michael also belonged to the Bethlehem Lions Club and was a member of the White Memorial Conservation Center.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Daniel.  He is survived by his sister Ann M Devine and brother Paul J Devine both of Bethlehem and countless friends and workers in Bethlehem. 

Services will be at St Nicholas Byzantine Catholic Church 13 Pembroke Rd Danbury CT on Friday, September 19, 2025. with burial at St Peter’s Cemetery in Danbury.   Visitation will be from 9a.m. to 10 a.m. at the Church.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests donation to the Bethlehem Volunteer Fire Department, the Bethlehem Ambulance Association, or St Nicholas Church, Danbury.

The family also wants to express their gratitude to the first responders of the Bethlehem VFD and Ambulance as well as the ER staff of Waterbury Hospital for their valiant efforts.
