Mary Ann Catherine Sheehy

Mary Ann Catherine Sheehy, 70, of Ridgefield, died peacefully on Wednesday, February 19, 2025 while surrounded by her family. She was the loving wife of Joseph J. Sheehy.

Mary Ann was born on June 7, 1954 in Greenwich, CT; a daughter of the late Joseph Gagon and Mary Modugno (Gagon); the daughter-in-law of Joseph Sheehy and Teresa Knoche Sheehy, lifelong residents of Ridgefield. 

A longtime resident of Ridgefield and dedicated educator of more than 40 years, Mary Ann held positions as an English teacher and the English Department Chairperson for New Milford High School; English teacher and English Department Chairperson at Weston High School; literacy specialist at Helen Keller Middle School in Easton as well as the Dean of Students and Assistant Principal for Joel Barlow High School. She loved to learn and shared this passion with teenagers and colleagues.

In her spare time, Mary Ann loved to bake. She enjoyed reading as well as gardening and volunteering at Weir Farm both in the studios and gardens.  She was an avid walker and hiker and could be often seen on the trails of Weir Farm, Tarrywile and Block Island. Mary Ann loved wildlife especially owls and hummingbirds. Over her life she rescued and raised many kittens and a few dogs. She had great compassion for all living things. Her life was full; a life well lived. 

Mary Ann is survived by her husband of 43 years, Joseph, as well as her twin sister, Eileen Foley and her husband, William. Mary Ann is also survived by her sister in law Mary Carty and her husband, Joseph; her sister in law Elizabeth Sheehy and her husband, Dr. Daniel Becker, as well as her nephews, Gareth Foley and Joe Carty, and her niece, Andrea Berg. Other surviving members include many cousins. 

Family and friends will be received on Sunday, March 2, 2025 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Kane Funeral Home; 25 Catoonah Street, Ridgefield. Interment will take place privately.

Contributions in Mary Ann’s memory may be made to Saint Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the Dementia Society of America.
