Mary Maher Ottoshavett, 88, of Danbury, wife of the late William Ottoshavett, died on Monday, October 30, 2023, at Bethel Health Care, Bethel, CT.
Mary was born on July 15, 1935, in Astoria, Queens, NY to Thomas and Marie (Nagel) Gentles, attended New York schools and graduated from Cathedral High School of New York City.
In early years, she was employed with the original Copacabana and Latin Quarter in NYC. She continued to work for many years in the hospitality industry and later in life became a home health aide not only to others through various agencies, but also for her children and family members.
She was a Danbury area resident for the past 60 years coming from New York.
Mary is survived by her son Anthony Maher (Renate) of Danbury Her siblings, Lillian Tomanelli (Dominic) of New Fairfield, Florence Rubino of New Fairfield, William Gentles of New Milford and Elizabeth “Betty Ann” Gentile (John) of Danbury, along with 12 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews
In addition to her parents and husband, Mary was predeceased by six children: James, Michael, Frederick Jr., Thomas, Cindy, and Theresa, her former husband, Frederick Maher Sr., her sister, Theresa Sheehan and her brother, Thomas Gentles Jr.
The family will receive friends in the Jowdy-Kane Funeral Home, 9 Granville Ave., Danbury on Wednesday, November 15, 2023 from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
Graveside funeral services and interment will follow in Mountain View Cemetery, New Fairfield at 12 Noon.
