Mark Pawlak Obituary

Mark Pawlak 101, of Bethel, passed away peacefully at his home on October 9, 2025. He was born on January 7, 1924 in Pielgrzymka, Poland, the son of Marina (Guzy) and Stefan Pawlak.

When WWII began Mark was taken by the Nazis into a forced labor concentration camp in Germany. He was held for 9 months when he survived the camp bombing by standing in a doorway by life saving advice he received from his father. He then found his way to a DP camp and was able to find work on a farm. In 1947, his uncle sponsored him and he came to the United States on the S.S. Ernie Pyle. He lived with family in Danbury before eventually moving to Bethel.

Mark owned and operated Connecticut Window Cleaning with his partner Steven Tarbay for many years until retirement. Mark always enjoyed working, he loved washing windows and working outside in his yard. He enjoyed gardening and maintaining a pristine lawn. Mark took pride in everything he did.

Mark leaves behind his wife Anne of 72 years, his daughters Suzanne Lemke her husband Brian, Linda Bryers her husband Dennis and several nieces and nephews.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Assisting Life Homecare and his caregivers Patricia and Blanca for their compassionate care to Mark as well as the nurses and staff from Regional Hospice in Danbury.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Regional Hospice of Danbury.
