Marietta M. Bailey

Marietta M. Bailey, 103, wife of the late Gene R. Bailey, died on Thursday, January 29, 2026.
Marietta was born on September 11, 1922, in St Bernard, Prov. of Decollatura, Catanzaro, Italy, the daughter of the late Luigi Antonio and Filomena (Cerra) Molinaro.
She arrival at Ellis Island on June 28, 1924 on board the Ship Giulio Cesare at age of 2 and the family came to Danbury, CT.
Marietta attended Saint Joseph School and New Street Grammar School. She graduated from Danbury High School in 1940.
In World War II she worked a Barden Corporation, and later as Office Administration at Savings Bank of Danbury, and finally at Hoffman Fuel Company retiring in 1986.
In addition to her cherished husband Gene for 61 1/2 years, Marietta will be sadly missed by her son, Robert G. Bailey of Danbury; her daughter, Cathy Layok and her husband, Paul of Danbury; her three grandsons, Craig (wife Angela), Kyle, and Dennis Layok and one great grand daughter Hope Layok.
Marietta had two brothers the late Angelo Molinaro and his wife late Barbara Molinaro, also the late Silvio Molinaro and his wife MaryAnn Molinaro. Marietta had many nieces and nephews.
She was a life long parishioner of St. Peter Church, and was in the church Ladies Guild.
She was an active member of the Danbury Senior Center, with the Quilt Society and member of Danbury Museum knitting group, also a member of AARP. At home she was outside in the summer vegetables garden, doing craft projects in winter and going to Broadway shows. Most mornings Marietta would be at Danbury Fair Mall with the mall walking group.
Finally a special thank you to Mary and Michelle help over last few months.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated February 6, 2026 at 1:00PM at St. Peter Church. Burial will follow in St. Peter Cemetery, at the family plot.
