Marguerite Louise (Wewer) O'Brien, a longtime employee of Maritime College and resident of the Bronx, New York, passed away peacefully on December 19, 2025, in Bethel at the age of 78. Born on April 12, 1947, she was the beloved daughter of the late Howard Wewer and Catherine (Ferguson) Wewer and sister of Catherine (Wewer) Gillis.
In October 1967, Margie married the love of her life, Michael O'Brien, and together they built a beautiful life and raised three sons: Michael (Suzanne), Dan (Christine), and Ed (Jazmin). She was the proud grandmother to Breana (Everett), Mariana, Suzanne, Michael III, Kayla, Jillian, Mauricio and Gabriella, and great-grandchildren, Everett and Alana. Deeply commited to her family, she was immensely proud of all of their accomplishments. She particularly enjoyed singing, dancing, and arts and crafts.
Margie dedicated over 30 years as an Administrative Assistant at Maritime College. Beyond her work, she was a dedicated community volunteer, serving for many years on the Board of her homeowner’s association and as a Eucharistic Minister for her local parish, St. Frances de Chantal.
She is survived by her three sons and their spouses, her grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind numerous loving nieces and nephews. Margie was predeceased by her husband, parents, sister and grandson Joseph. She will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to have known and loved her.
A funeral mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, December 23, 2025 at 9:45 AM in Saint Mary's Church; 55 Catoonah Street, Ridgefield. Entombment will follow in Saint Raymond's Cemetery; Bronx, NY. There will be no calling hours.
