Margarete Hannalore Kerker, 85, of Bethel, CT and longtime resident of Katonah, NY, died peacefully in her home in Bethel on Friday, January 3, 2025. She was the loving and devoted wife of the late Helmut Kerker, cherished and admired mother to Vivian Kerker and Elisa Duffy, kind and gracious friend to many.
Mrs. Kerker, born in Vienna, Austria on October 8, 1939, was the daughter of the late Karl and Margaretha (Braitwieser) Koberger. She and Helmut made the very courageous move to immigrate to the United States beginning a new generation of family in America.
Mrs. Kerker, known to many as “Greta”, was an avid hiker and skier finding tranquility in the outdoors. A gifted pianist, Greta’s music came from her heart and brought delight to herself and others. She found great enjoyment in her many exciting travels and was an excellent planner. A talented singles and doubles player, tennis was Greta’s sport of choice.
Mrs. Kerker was a retired bookkeeper and a member of the First Congregational Church in Ridgefield, CT. She also spent countless hours over many years volunteering at the Women’s Civic Club of Katonah making notable contributions to her community.
Mrs. Kerker is survived by her daughters Vivian Kerker and Elisa Duffy as well as her grandchildren Ethan and Abigail Duffy.
A Memorial Service in Celebration of Mrs. Kerker’s Life will take place on Saturday, February 1, 2025, 11:00 a.m. at the First Congregational Church, 103 Main Street, Ridgefield, CT.
There will be a reception following the memorial service. A livestream for the service will be available through Zoom. Contributions in lieu of flowers can be made to the music program at the First Congregational Church or http://woundedwarriorproject.org.
