Lynda Korotash Obituary

Lynda H. Korotash, the wife of attorney Mark W. Korotash, passed away peacefully at Danbury Hospital on March 31, 2021, in the presence of her family after a brief illness.

“Lynnie”, as she was known to her friends, was born on April 11, 1950, in Cambridge, Massachusetts, to the late Walter and Olga (Zacharchuk) Horoschak. She moved to Connecticut in the eighth grade and graduated from Ansonia High School in 1968. It was there that she met her husband of forty-seven years.

She also graduated from Central Connecticut State University in 1972. Lynn and Mark married in 1973 and moved to Newtown where she became involved in community activities, including co-chairing the Labor Day Parade, the Thanksgiving and Christmas baskets sponsored by the Jaycee Wives for the Newtown Fund, as well as serving as class “Mom” at the Head O’ Meadow School and Girl Scout leader.

Lynn worked at Ethan Allen as secretary to the Director of Store Development and then “retired” to raise her family. She returned to the workforce as secretary to the Director of Guidance at Newtown High School for 19 years (her second family), where “Mrs. K.” was instrumental in assisting students with their college applications, transcripts and just being there for sound advice.

Besides her devoted husband, she is survived by her daughter Lindsey (Matthew) Roth of South Burlington, Vermont, and their children, William and Veralyn, as well as her son, Gregory (Katie) Korotash of New Milford, Connecticut, and their daughters, Skylar and Mackenzie. In addition, she is survived by her sisters Sandra (William) Gillen of Seymour, CT, and Nancy (Douglas) Neill of Gooding, Idaho, her sister-in-law Elizabeth (John) Sedlak of Shreveport, Louisiana, her nieces Jennifer (Radley) Manzo of Oxford, CT, and Kristen (Jeffrey) Luzzi of Milford, CT, her nephew Andrew Neill of Gooding, ID, along with several grandnieces and nephews.

Lynn’s proudest accomplishment was her devotion to her family. She was happiest when planning, organizing and cooking for holidays and family celebrations, as well as enjoying time with her four grandchildren. She also enjoyed traveling with three other couples from high school and college, “The Gang of Eight,” to B&Bs on the east coast and celebrating major holidays with them for many years.

She was also devoted to her church where she was a Sunday school teacher and chaired the production of the 100th anniversary commemorative book. Anyone who knew Lynn knew that she was a kind and giving person who always had a smile on her face, a good word for everyone and was always willing to help. She lived her life with grace and class.
