Louise (Yanak) Wichman, 88, of Danbury, wife of the late William Wichman, died on Thursday, May 18, 2023.
She was born in Danbury on May 2, 1935, the only daughter of the late John and Rose (Sassetti) Yanak. She attended Sacred Heart School and graduated from Danbury High in 1952. She met the love of her life, William Wichman in homeroom at DHS. They were married in 1954, and they lived in Corpus Christi, TX, and Norfolk, VA, before returning home to Danbury to start and raise their family.
She worked in the office of The McLachlan Hat Company and then was a secretary/bookkeeper for the family businesses, Central Package Store and Danbury Rubber Stamp/DRS Designs, where she worked until this past November, when she became ill.
She loved to travel, golf, garden, dance, and spend time with her grandchildren. Nana was at countless football games, concerts, plays, dance recitals, and cheer competitions, being their biggest cheerleader and supporter. She set a perfect example of a loving mother and Nana.
She was a former member of the Sacred Heart Ladies Guild, Sacred Heart Finance Committee, and Ridgewood Country Club.
She leaves her children, Cyndee Lucas, Jonathan (Lenore) Wichman, Susan Wichman, and Samantha (Mark) Conrad.
She leaves 17 grandchildren, Chester (Kayla) Lucas III, William (Brianna) Lucas, Elizabeth (Andrew) Wilkens, Melissa ( Christopher) Walker, Kathryn Wichman, Joshua Wichman, Michael Wichman, David Wichman, Elizabeth Wichman, Lila Wichman, Bradley Wichman, Robert Wichman, Dillon Wichman, Jake Wichman, Kyle (Bianca) Conrad, Andrea (Matt) Conrad and Kristen Conrad. She also leaves 3 great-grandchildren, Chester Lucas IV, Eliza Lucas, and Sabrina Walker.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was pre-deceased by her brother-in-law Robert Wichman, sister-in-law Elizabeth Wichman, and son-in-law Chester Lucas Jr.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, May 23, 2023, at 11 a.m. in the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, 12 Cottage St., Danbury. Burial will follow in St. Peter Cemetery, Danbury. The family will receive friends in the Jowdy-Kane Funeral Home, 9 Granville Ave., Danbury on Monday, May 22, 2023, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
