(Joan) Loire Warner Leavitt (age 90) died at Danbury Hospital on Wednesday, May 19, 2021. She was born in Bronxville, N.Y. and graduated with a B.S. cum laude degree from the University of New Hampshire class of 1953. She taught school on Long island.
In 1954 she married Robert R. Leavitt of Durham, N.H. and a 2nd Lt. in the U. S. Army. She leaves her husband of 66 years and three children: Katherine Loire Leavitt of Ridgefield; Joy Leavitt Meyers and husband Mark Meyers of La Grange, IL.; William I. Leavitt and wife, Dana Oshiro of Lexington, Ma. Four grandsons; Preston Meyers, Russell Meyers, Cole Oshiro-Leavitt and Clay Oshiro-Leavitt.
Loire was a substitute teacher for the Ridgefield schools; a tax preparer for H. R. Block; census taker for the annual census three times; President of the American Field Service at RHS; a member of Jesse Lee Memorial Methodist Church and participated on many committees; Flower Committee, Chairman of the Clothing Sale for three years and on the Committee of 12; worked at Rodier's flower shop for 23 years part time; drove for FISH; active in Founders Hall; and has been a member of the Ridgefield Thrift Shop since 1998.
She loved tennis, downhill skiing in the east and out west; bicycling with Bob 9 times in Europe with International Bicycle Tours; and 10 times within the U.S. with Bob and Katherine with VBT, as well as car travel.
Duplicate bridge was a favorite activity at Founders Hall as well as rubber bridge in different groups. Family gatherings were the best and she loved to bake items for family and friends.
She will be sorely missed by her husband, her children and four grandsons.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at Jesse Lee Memorial Methodist church at a future date.
