Joseph Figueiredo Obituary

Joseph A. Figueiredo, 58, Loving Husband, Father, and Grandfather

Joseph A. Figueiredo, aged 58, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on Sunday, September 1st, 2024. Born on March 30th, 1966, in Portugal, he was the beloved son of Eduarda and Antonio Figueiredo.

Joseph was a remarkably intelligent man, always reading new and exciting works of fiction and nonfiction. Rarely seen without a book in his hand, he shared his passion for reading with his friends and family.

He had a fulfilling career as a gas mechanic and retired from Local 60 in Hawthorne, New York.

He married Janet Marrone and together they had one daughter, Stephanie.

As a father, Joseph created magical memories out of the plain and ordinary. He loved taking his daughter for walks around the lake, fishing, and, most importantly, cooking wonderful meals for his family. His wife, Janet, would often say, “He makes chopping an onion magical”—and he did. The scents of garlic, onions, freshly baked baguettes, and roasted pork often filled their kitchen, creating an atmosphere of warmth and love. Stephanie cherishes many fond memories of her father’s cooking, especially the fresh breakfasts he made on Sunday mornings.

Joseph was a generous and patient man who loved traveling and exploring new places. He especially enjoyed spending time at the beach in Sag Harbor and visiting Disney World with his grandchildren. He also had a great love for animals of all kinds, always seeing their best qualities.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Janet Marrone-Figueiredo, and their daughter, Stephanie, who is married to Michael Erisman of Missouri. Joseph adored their two children, Ivy and Michael Rhodes, who brought immense joy to his life. He is also survived by his loving sister, Isabel and their two brothers Carlos and Paul Figueiredo. He loved his niece Alyssa, nephews, Ethan, Eric and Justin, and god-daughter, Isabella greatly and has fond memories with them all.

In 2024, Joseph spent much of his time with his close family and grandchildren, a time that filled his heart with warmth and happiness. He is sorely missed by those who love him dearly. May he rest in eternal peace in Heaven.
