John Voellmicke, Jr. Obituary

John L. Voellmicke, Jr. passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family, on June 21, 2025 at the age of 83. Formerly of Franklin Lakes, NJ, John moved to Ridgefield, CT in 2022. He was born in Hoboken, NJ on January 25, 1942 to John L. Voellmicke and Frances (Savitsky) Voellmicke. He graduated from Sussex High School in Sussex, NJ and went on to attend Villanova University, graduating from the College of Engineering in 1963.

In 1966, he married Olivia (Fietti) Voellmicke and they moved to Roselle Park, NJ. He later attended and received his MSME from Newark College of Engineering in 1969, his MBA from Fairleigh Dickinson University in 1973, and his JD from Seton Hall Law School in 1979. He started his career as an engineer for General Motors in Harrison, NJ and continued as an engineer at Singer Co. in Elizabeth, NJ. He joined Becton, Dickinson & Co. as a senior engineer in 1969. In 1980, after graduating law school, he joined the law department at Becton, Dickinson & Co., practicing intellectual property law. He retired in 2002 as an Associate Chief Intellectual Property Attorney. After retirement, he had a private law practice.

John was a car and motorcycle enthusiast. He enjoyed attending car shows, working on his own cars, and going on motorcycle trips with his friends. Growing up, he loved going to the Jersey Shore and hunting in Sussex. He loved movies, particularly Animal House, Major League and Predator 2. If he was in the kitchen, he was likely cooking his famous chili, or adding Tabasco sauce to anything in front of him. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Olivia, his five children and eleven grandchildren: John C. Voellmicke and his partner Amy Auth and his children Ethan and Maxwell; Kurt Voellmicke and his wife Lisa and their children Isabel, Jacob and Ben; Craig Voellmicke and his wife Isabelle and their children Colette and Emmeline; J. Olivia Voellmicke and her husband Chris Kamnik and their children Axol and Mia; Michael Voellmicke and his wife Katherine and their children Lyla and Heidi. John is also survived by his sister Susan Bates and her husband Tom from Concord, MA.

Family and friends will be received on Friday, June 27, 2025 from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Kane Funeral Home; 25 Catoonah Street, Ridgefield. A memorial service led by John's family will take place on Saturday, June 28, 2025 at 10:30 AM at Kane Funeral Home, Ridgefield. Interment will take place privately.
