John J. Scozzafava, 98, of Danbury, husband of the late Carmella (Germinaro) Scozzafava and the late Paula (Krizan) Scozzafava, died on Wednesday, April 13, 2022. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 19, 2022, at 10 AM in St. Joseph R.C. Church, Danbury. (OBITUARY BELOW)
John Joseph Scozzafava, age 98, of Danbury passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, April 13, 2022.
He was the husband of the late Paula (Krizan) Scozzafava.
Mr. Scozzafava was born November 13, 1923, in Danbury, a son of the late Joseph and Catherine (Paonessa) Scozzafava.
He attended Danbury schools and retired after working for many years as co-owner, along with his brothers, of Henry Street Market. He attended St. Joseph's Catholic Church and St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Danbury.
He was a proud veteran of the United States Army Air Corps as a B-29 radio operator, stationed in Saipan in the Northern Mariana Islands in the western Pacific during WWII.
Mr. Scozzafava was a former member and chairman of the City of Danbury’s Board of Tax Review.
Mr. Scozzafava is survived by his children: Joseph Scozzafava of Danbury and John Scozzafava and his wife Carol of Florida, his stepchildren Michael Lombardi and his fiancé Meg Morrell of East Haddam, Alan Lombardi of Danbury, Gregg Lombardi and his wife Jill of Unionville, Cindy Hawley and her husband Gary of Danbury, Craig Lombardi of Danbury, and Missy Russell and her husband Todd of Danbury. He was very proud of their 29 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren.
He is survived by his sister Eleanor Torielli of Danbury, his daughter-in-law Tracy Lombardi of Bethel, brothers-in-law Daniel Krizan of New Milford and Emil Krizan of Stepney, his sister-in-law Marie Krizan of Danbury, as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife Carmella (Germinaro) Scozzafava, his brothers Sevario Scozzafava and Joseph Scozzafava, his stepson: A.J. Lombardi, his brother-in-law Walter Torielli, and daughter-in-law Donna Scozzafava.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 19, 2022, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 386 Main St., Danbury, Connecticut, followed by burial at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, Danbury with military honors.
