John Legan Obituary

John Joseph Legan, 70, of New Milford, ascended into heaven on Monday, November 25, 2024. He was the cherished husband of Ritva (Laakkonen) Legan.

John was born in Stamford, CT on February 10, 1954; a son of the late Joseph and Carmela (Santarsiero) Legan.

John spent his formative years in Ridgefield, settling in New Milford after his marriage in 1976.

John retired from a long career in retail and pharmacy management. He worked as a general manager for Grand Union, Shaw’s and CVS.

In addition, John volunteered for Food Share programs and Habitat For Humanity.

Annual vacations in Wellfleet, MA were spent with family, friends and often his children's friends.

John loved to travel.  He was a cruise aficionado, having taken over two dozen cruises, St. Maarten being his favorite place to visit.  Those memorable trips were frequently shared with family and friends as well.

Family was his top priority and brought him his greatest joy.  He relished fatherhood, and especially being a grandfather.

John is survived by his wife, Ritva; as well as their two children: John Legan and his wife, Jessica and Eliisa Antal and her husband, Steve. John is also survived by his grandchildren; Jenna and Jacob Legan, and Dylan, Jackson and Evan Antal; as well as his siblings: Ann Senko and her husband, Joseph; Maureen Hulse and her husband, Al; Robert Legan and his wife, Rita; Edward Legan and his wife, Judy; William Legan and his wife, Salwa; Anthony Legan, Joseph Legan and his wife, Sally and Michael Legan. In addition, John is survived by 6 sisters in law; 4 brothers in law, 8 nephews, 12 nieces and 21 grandnieces and nephews, and numerous cousins.

Family and friends will be received on Thursday, December 5, 2024 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Kane Funeral Home; 25 Catoonah Street, Ridgefield.
