John P. Jones, Sr., 87, of Watertown, CT, formerly of Sebastian, Florida, passed away on Sunday, March 2nd, after a brief illness.
John was born in Colchester, Vermont, on September 14, 1937, the son of the late Clifford and Hazel Jones (Mitchell).
John married Marilyn “Mimi” Jones (Otto) in October of 1966, ultimately settling in Danbury, Connecticut until retiring to Sebastian, Florida in 2017. John and Mimi were married for 56 years, until Mimi’s passing in June of 2022.
John was a self-employed contractor for the majority of his life, starting from a very early age, working on commercial and residential projects. While his work activity slowed down upon his retirement, John was working on house projects right up until the time of his illness. John always expressed such pride in the work that he did, most notably, the home he constructed and owned in Eden Falls, Vermont, recalling how each piece of lumber needed to be brought over a bridge he built over a stream that bordered the property.
As mentioned, John is predeceased by his wife Marilyn, as well and 4 brothers and 1 sister.
John is survived by his four children and their spouses, Jeanette Miller and her husband Brian, John P. Jones, Jr. and his wife Carol, Heidi Scuderi and her husband Anthony and Tricia Stinson and her husband Jim, with whom John lived. He is also survived by his sister, Lorraine Layne, and his sister-in-law, Rosie Jones. He is also survived by many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nephews and nieces.
While the name John Jones may be construed to many as a common, John was anything but. He was a treasure in every sense. John was a self-made man, hardworking and dedicated. While not a man of many words, when he spoke, others listened. He always referred to himself as “The Boss”, a titled he truly deserved. He was strong and resilient. While strong, he also had a softer side. John was a man who saw so much, lived so long, and loved his family with such a quiet intensity. He will be truly missed, but so lovingly remembered.
The family would like to thank the staff on the 9th floor of the Danbury Hospital for the care they provided John, and for the empathy provided to his family.
Family and friends will be received on Saturday, March 15, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Jowdy-Kane Funeral Home; 9 Granville Avenue, Danbury. Interment will take place privately.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to the ALS Association at http://als.org in honor of Mimi.
