John Simpson Obituary

John Edward Simpson, 86, longtime resident of Ridgefield, died peacefully on Friday, September 23, 2022. He was the loving husband of Sandra (Chambers) Simpson.

John was born on April 18, 1936, in Detroit, Michigan, the eldest child of the late John W. and Freda (Beck) Simpson. Following his graduation from Denby High School in Detroit, he went on to attend the University of Michigan and graduated from Wayne State University in 1958, earning a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration. He served in the United States Army as a Staff Sergeant, stationed in San Antonio, TX.

John moved to Ridgefield from Minneapolis, MN in 1968. He enjoyed a long and successful career in financial services and retired from his position as Branch Manager of the Wilton office of A.G. Edwards and Sons.

John enjoyed a number of outdoors pursuits, including hunting, fishing, and skiing. Assisted by his sons, he restored a 1953 MG Mark 4 TD, which won first place in a car show at Watkins Glen. He and his wife Sandra were members of Silver Spring Country Club in Ridgefield, where they enjoyed many rounds of golf with friends. A member of the Ridgefield Men's Club and the Rotary Club, in his later years John was also an active participant in the Silver Sneakers program at the Wilton Y.

John is survived by his wife, Sandra as well as his son, Mark Simpson. John is also survived by his stepchildren, Jeffrey and Kevin Cowser; his daughters in law, Lisa Simpson and Jennifer Simpson; his grandchildren, Tessa, Ross, Shelby and Jackson; his brother, Lloyd and sister-in-law, Diane; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, John was predeceased by his first wife, Sharon (Haskins); his sons, John G. and Jeffrey Simpson; and his sister, Barbara and brother-in-law, Ralph Byrne.

A funeral prayer service will be offered on Thursday, October 6, 2022, at 12:00 PM (Noon) at Kane Funeral Home; 25 Catoonah Street, Ridgefield. Interment and military honors will follow in Mapleshade Cemetery, Ridgefield. Family and friends will be received from 11:00 AM until the time of the prayer service on Thursday morning at the funeral home.
