John R. Barrish

John Barrish of Danbury, CT passed away peacefully at Danbury Hospital on September 19, 2024 after a brief illness.

John was born January 4, 1956 in Stamford, CT to Svea Nystrom Barrish and Richard Barrish and raised in Norwalk, CT until age 16 when the family moved to Redding, CT.  As a teenager, John loved working on cars with his dad and younger brother, Larry.

As a young adult, John moved to Danbury, CT.  After various jobs doing auto mechanics, auto body work and auto painting, John worked many years at Demitron/Kerr Research Corp., where he received technical certification in electrical and mechanical testing and repair in the dental curing lights industry. In his later years, John ran his own landscaping business before retiring.

John was very handy and could fix just about anything. He enjoyed repairing and restoring old equipment such as tractors, lawn mowers, and snow blowers. One of John's most favorite pastimes was learning about, researching and investing in the stock market. He would talk with anyone who would lend an ear about the stock market and share what he had learned about it. He had an artistic streak also which he demonstrated designing artificial flower arrangements with his mother. John also loved to walk the parks and the mall to keep fit. He was an avid exercise enthusiast, working out everyday. John was an outgoing, happy and engaging guy who met people and made friends everywhere he went. He knew so many people and they took to him  with his friendliness and humorous wit. He was also wiling to lend a helping hand to anyone he met. He will be missed by everyone who's world was touched by him.

John was predeceased  by his brother Larry, Father Richard, Mother Svea and Grandparents Anna and Edwin Nystrom, and Jessie and Joseph Barrish. He is survived by Lore Hermes, his partner of 17 years, and cousins Joan McCoy, Mary Sue Rozsa, Sue Haas and Chet Birish. He will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Family and friends will be received on Thursday, October 3, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Jowdy-Kane Funeral Home; 9 Granville Avenue, Danbury. A funeral home prayer service will be offered at the conclusion of the visitation. A graveside service and interment will follow in Center Cemetery; 6 Poplar Street, New Milford.
