Jessie May Patton went home to be with the Lord on April 1, 2025 at the age of 102. She was born on February 11, 1923 in Bethel Connecticut and grew up in Danbury. She married John R Patton on September 29, 1943. They were married for 74 years when John passed. They lived in Danbury for most of their lives but also lived in Glen Burnie, Maryland and Smithtown, Long Island for 10 of those years due to John’s work assignments. Jessie had a beautiful voice and got involved in church and choirs where ever they lived.
Her parents were Leonard and Jessie Edwards. Jessie was predeceased by all her siblings. She had two brothers, Dan and Charlie and four sisters, Edith, Annabelle, Laura and Lillian.
Jessie and John had 6 children. Their son David passed away in 2017 due to a motor vehicle accident. Jack and his wife Joan live in Oxford Ct. Kathleen Pawson and husband Donald are from Daytona Beach Florida. Lois McKee and her husband David, daughter in law Deborah and Linda Laboy and her husband Ramon live in Danbury. Michael and his wife Catherine live in Bethel CT.
Jessie also leaves 68 grand, great-grand, and great-great grandchildren. Many of which she helped raise.
Jessie will be remembered for her willingness to volunteer and help others. She took care of her mother-in-law in her final years. She managed the thrift shop at the King St Church. She entertained at convalescent homes telling jokes and was renowned for her rendition of second hand rose. At family gatherings she was the life of the party. Jessie was also known as the goodhearted lady that ran the Sugar Shack, a corner variety store and lunch counter.
Jessie’s celebration of life will be held at the King Street United Church of Christ at 201 S King St. Danbury CT. on Sunday April 6, 2025 at 1 p.m. Interment to follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the King Street United Church of Christ.
