Jean E. Markewycz

Jean Elesta Markewycz, 96, of Danbury, CT wife of the late Walter Markewycz, was taken into the arms of the Lord on December 11, 2024.

Born on July 24, 1928 in Sharon CT, Jean was retired from Boehringer Ingelheim in 1993 and spent many years in Delaware after her retirement traveling across the United States, visiting many Islands, hosting happy hours, playing cards and reading. Her greatest joy was spending her life with Walter.  

She is predeceased by her first husband, Robert Gaines, her son, John Gaines in addition to her sisters, Marguerite, Irene, Rey and her brother George Allison. 

She is survived by her daughter, Susan Hanks and her two grandchildren Megan and Mark Thompson of Texas, Marcia Grise (Dan) and her two grandchildren, Carley Favreau-Grise and Christopher Grise, her niece Jeanne(Gerry) Benoit from NY in addition to several other nieces and nephews. 

We wish to extend our gratitude to the entire staff at Havencare at Hancock Hall for their comfort and care of this special lady. 

A funeral mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, December 17, 2024 at 10:00 AM in Saint Joseph's Church; 8 Robinson Avenue, Danbury. Interment will follow in Wooster Cemetery, Danbury. There will be no calling hours.
