Dr. Jay Tittman, 103, of Danbury, husband of the late Eleanor (Gelber) Tittman, died on Wednesday, February 11, 2026 at Danbury Hospital. Dr. Tittman was born in Bayonne, N.J. on December 28, 1922 to Martin D. and Julia (Rosenblum) Tittman.
He attended New Jersey schools, received his Bachelor’s degree in Physics from Drew University and his Master’s degree and Ph.D from Columbia University.
From 1944 to 1946, he served on active duty with the U.S. Navy serving as an assistant electronics officer at the Charleston Navy Yard and a radar and electronics officer on staff of Commodore, LST Flotilla 16, Pacific Theater.
Dr. Tittman held positions in physics research at Schlumberger-Doll Research Center, Ridgefield and in engineering at Schlumberger headquarters in Houston, TX.
He later formed Jay Tittman Technical Consulting Services: Subsurface exploration techniques, patent litigation, expert witness testimony, author and lecturer. He also served as an Adjunct Professor of Physical Science at New England Institute, Ridgefield, CT.
Among his Honors and Awards, Dr. Tittman was an American Physical Society Fellow, a Gold Medal recipient for Technical Achievement by the Society of Petrophysicists and Well Log Analysts, authored the book, Geophysical Well Logging, authored or co-authored more than 30 scientific and engineering papers, presented numerous lectures, and received 14 patents for applied radioactivity and nuclear methods and equipment.
Jay was a life member, a past president and trustee of the United Jewish Center, Danbury; as well as a past trustee of Jewish Senior Services, Bridgeport, the Jewish Federation of Greater Danbury, and the Association of Religious Communities of Danbury. In addition, he was a founding member of the Greater Danbury Area Men’s Club.
In recognition of the great importance that education played in his life and to show gratitude for his education through scholarship, Dr. Tittman created the Tittman Physics Scholarship for Drew University students.
Jay is survived by two daughters, Nancy Keefe and Barbara Markusson, son-in-law Joseph Keefe, seven grandchildren, and thirteen great-grandchildren. In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by a daughter Carol Tittman.
Funeral Services will take place on Sunday, February 15, 2026 at 1:30 p.m. in Mt. Lebanon Cemetery. Iselin, N.J.
