Henrique “Poncho” Antonio, 93, of Danbury, husband of the late Shirley (Peters) Antonio, died on Friday, November 26, 2021.
Mr. Antonio was born in Portugal, September 7, 1928, a son of the late Manuel and Maria (da Piedade) Antonio.
He immigrated to the United States with his family in 1934 settling in Danbury. He attended Danbury schools and graduated from Danbury High School with the Class of 1948. He was a retired distribution manager for Davis & Geck Corporation of Danbury. An active member of the Danbury Democratic Party, Mr. Antonio was elected to serve as a Councilman, a member of the Board of Education, and a former member of the Danbury Democratic Town Committee.
Poncho was a member of the Sons of Portugal, Portuguese Cultural Center, and St. Gregory the Great Church.
He is survived by a daughter, Jean Antonio of St. Augustine, FL, four grandchildren, Amanda, Courtney, Alyssa, and Jake, and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Antonio was predeceased by a daughter, Jo-Ann Sousa, and by a brother, Alfonso Luiz Antonio.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, December 1, 2021, at 11 a.m. in St. Gregory the Great Church, 85 Great Plain Rd., Danbury. Burial will follow in St. Peter Cemetery, Danbury.
