Hazel Elizabeth Glynn Riley, 87, a proud native of Nyack, NY, died peacefully in Cromwell, Connecticut on Thursday, November 6, 2025. Better known as Liz, she was the loving wife of Daniel A. Riley II.
Liz loved her family, friends, gardening, and travel. She grew up in Nyack, NY with her seven brothers and sisters. After completing high school, she pursued a degree at Marywood College and became an elementary school teacher. After graduating, she met her future husband who was visiting the Glynn house as a friend of her sister Pat’s beau, Louis Consiglio. Liz and Dan hit it off and embarked on a 63 year journey together that included living in Marblehead, MA, Port Chester, NY, Wilton, CT, and Ridgefield, CT.
Liz is survived by her husband, son Daniel A. Riley III and Melissa Riley, daughter Jeannette E. Riley and Kathleen Torrens, and her brother Philip “Footie” Glynn.
In Wilton, CT, where the family lived for more than 30 years, Liz was active in Wilton Garden Club, enjoying the creative outlet of growing, arranging, and sharing green things. She enjoyed helping to orchestrate the annual flower sale, especially the tomatoes! The love of nature and community led her to volunteering at Ambler Farm with her husband Dan, where she loved contributing to the farm's programs, particularly during the holiday season.
Liz and Dan also enjoyed many years of travel and adventure, seeing the world – Africa, Japan, China, Australia. Favorite locales included Italy and Hawaii, but the heart of their world, other than their home, was Nantucket. Liz and Dan traveled with their family to Nantucket every summer for over 40 years, hosting friends and extended family in a variety of island locations. The longtime favorite was 37 Wigwam in Madequecham, where their siblings, cousins, nieces and nephews, inlaws and outlaws of all sorts congregated. Games were played, waves were surfed, and Liz loved her family being around her.
Family and friends will be received on Monday, November 10, 2025 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Kane Funeral Home; 25 Catoonah Street, Ridgefield. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, November 11, 2025 at 10:00 AM in Saint Mary's Church; 55 Catoonah Street, Ridgefield. Interment will take place privately.
