Freida “Fritzie” Dretel
Freida “Fritzie” Dretel, 91, a retired Danbury Public School music educator, died on Wednesday, July 27, 2022, in Myrtle Beach, SC. Mrs. Dretel was the wife of the late Martin George Dretel. She was born in Hackensack, NJ, on September 18, 1930, a daughter of the late Leon and Jean (Lempert) Reiter. Education background: She received her Bachelor’s Degree and Master's degree from Western State University. She also attended Julliard School of Music and Montclair State Teachers College. A retired music educator, she taught in Sherman and Danbury CT for twenty years. Mrs. Dretel was a member of the Hadassah Women’s Organization. While residing in Boynton Beach FL, she volunteered at several Assisted Living Facilities playing piano for the resident’s entertainment. She had been a resident of Myrtle Beach since 2016 moving from Florida to be closer to her daughter. In the Assisted Living facility, she performed piano concerts and started a Choral group that performed for the residents and families. With her music and compassionate heart, she touched many people of all ages. She loved to laugh, drink wine, and play Mahjongg and board games. Above all she loved her family and had a real zest for life. Mrs. Dretel is survived by a daughter Donna Kozlowski and her husband James of Calabash, son Alan M. Dretel of Sherman, CT, sister Annette Friend and her husband Evan of San Diego, CA, grandchildren, David Dretel, Aaron Dretel, Rachael Leah Black, Laura Beth Black, and great grandchildren, Hunter David Dretel, Jake Alan Dretel, Luke Richard Dretel, Emmett Dretel, Shiloh Dretel, Gideon Dretel, Felicity Dretel and Silas Dretel. In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Dretel was predeceased, a son, David Joel Dretel, and brother Bernard Reiter. Graveside funeral services and burial will take place on Tuesday, August 2, 2022, at 12 noon in the B’Nai Israel Cemetery, Miry Brook Rd., Danbury with Rabbi Jon Haddon officiating.
