Evangelia “Angela” Paravalos, 88, of Naugatuck, longtime resident of Danbury, Connecticut died peacefully on Sunday, October 27, 2024. She was the loving wife of Antonios P. Paravalos for 59 years.
Angela was born in Ioannina, Greece on November 28, 1935, the eldest daughter of the late George and Spiridoula Gianousis. Growing up, Evangelia helped raise her six siblings in Ioannina and traveled to Athens, Greece for work. After living in Andros and Syros, Angela with her husband immigrated to the United States in 1973, settling in Danbury, Connecticut.
Angela cherished her family and was a devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a faithful member of the Assumption Greek Orthodox Church where she served as a member of the choir and volunteered at Church events. Angela retired from her longtime role as a housekeeper at Danbury Hospital. She was an enthusiastic baker, crocheter and knitter, and caregiver.
Angela will be dearly missed by her family and friends. Angela is survived by her husband of 59 years, Antonios, her sisters, Garifalia, Lambrini and her husband Giorgos in Andros, and Despina and her husband Christos in Peloponnese, and her brothers Chrisanthos and his wife Ourania and Eleftherios and his wife Koula in Athens; her children Peter Paravalos and his wife Mary Ellen of Westwood, MA, Helen Velázquez and her husband José of Naugatuck, CT; grandchildren Sophia Paravalos, Peter Paravalos Jr., Ashley Teixeira, Bianca Teixeira, Nicolás Velázquez and José Velázquez III; and three great grandchildren Mia, Elias and Oliver. Angela’s brother-in-law George and his wife Lucy Paravalos live in Brookfield, Connecticut; and extended family including nieces and nephews live in the United States and in Greece.
In addition to her parents, Angela was predeceased by a brother, Angelos in Athens, Greece.
The Rite of Burial will take place on Friday, November 1, 2024 at 11:30 AM in Assumption Greek Orthodox Church; 30 Clapboard Ridge Road, Danbury. Interment will follow in Saint Peter Cemetery; 71 Lake Avenue Extension, Danbury. Family and Friends will be received on Friday morning at Assumption Greek Orthodox Church from 10:00 AM until the time of the funeral service.
