Elizabeth J. Stewart

Elizabeth Frances Stewart, AKA: Elizabeth J. Stewart, 86, of New Milford, died peacefully on June 15, 2024.

Elizabeth was known as Betty. Betty was born on October 28, 1937, in Stamford, CT; a daughter of the late Ernest and Mary (Bowron) Jay. Although she was born in Stamford, CT, she was brought up in Vermont. She later moved back to Connecticut to pursue a career in Nursing and fell in love, married, and moved to Ridgefield, CT. After she and her predeceased ex-husband, Robert Decatur Stewart, divorced, Betty sustained many different jobs, i.e., PCT, Bus Driver, Waitress, and Bowling Instructor. Betty also ventured out of Connecticut to Florida, later moved to Arizona, and ended up going back to Florida with Mary to enjoy the company of some very dear friends. As years went on, Betty’s health declined, bringing her back to Connecticut to be with most of her adult children and their families. She and Mary lived in a beautiful rental farmhouse in New Milford, CT until she passed.

Betty had a lot of love in her heart for her entire family. She enjoyed knitting, sewing, traveling, camping, fishing, boating, gardening, farming, cooking, watching car racing, watching her family participate in sporting events, and bowling. She loved going to festivals and Elvis Tributes with her sisters and especially with her daughter. She was known to watch reality shows and game shows, play on her computer, and bird watch. She especially loved the holidays and birthdays. She was always the life of the party.

Betty is survived by her children (Bobby, Danny and his wife Michelle, Scotty and his ex-wife, Michele Healey, Kenny and his wife Jolanda, and Mary), her grandchildren (Rebecca, Jacob, Jessica, Jaime, Scott, Nick, Dalton, her step-grandchildren (Heather, Dani, LeGrande and his wife Claren), great grandchild (Payson Stewart), step great grandchildren Beckham, Milo, Zaley, and Remi), and her beloved sisters - Jessie Jordan, Frances (Dotty) Squiers, Ida Holcombe and ex-husband Bill Childs, Nancy Boden and ex-husband Bill Boden, and Debbie Santoro.  In addition to her parents, Betty was predeceased by her brother, Ernest (Sony) Fred Jay, her divorced husband, Robert Stewart, her sister Jessie’s husband, Harold Jordan, her sister Dotty’s husband, Raymond Squiers, and her sister Debbie’s husband, Matthew Santoro, AKA: Jr.
