Elizabeth Ann DePaoli, beloved mother, sister, grandmother and great grandmother peacefully passed away December 31, 2023. Born May 11, 1936 to Gustave and Mary DeMichele, Elizabeth was raised in Hastings and attended Hastings High school where she was active in women’s sports and made lifelong friends. Head strong and confident, Betty pursued a career at Vicks Chemical in Manhattan at a time when most positions were traditionally held by men.
Betty met James Joseph DePaoli while employed at Vicks and, after a whirlwind romance, exchanged marriage vows and began a loving relationship that lasted 55 years. The couple moved to Peekskill, NY and welcomed daughter, Alison and sons, Paul and Douglas. Family and friends were Betty’s priority, and she reveled in Sunday gatherings, neighborhood parties and family vacations.
As her children became more independent Betty joined Metropolitan Life Insurance Company and found her true professional calling. Over the course of a thirty-year career Betty held increasingly responsible senior positions in account management, financial planning and client development. She was a member of Westchester Association of Women Business Owners and was awarded Leaders Conference recognition four times.
Aside from finding great joy in her family, she enjoyed bowling, bridge, cooking and travel. Elizabeth is survived by her daughter Alison and husband Craig of Ridgefield, sons Paul and wife Veronica of Honesdale, PA and Douglas and wife Rosalyn of New Fairfield, grandchildren James, Kevin, Thomas, Julianne, Brian and Jaclyn. She was truly blessed to welcome great granddaughters Keira and Isla into her fold. Betty is also survived by her sister, Carol DeMichele, her niece, her nephew and several cousins.
Family and friends will be received on Friday, January 5, 2024 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Kane Funeral Home - 25 Catoonah Street; Ridgefield, CT
A graveside service and interment will take place on Saturday, January 6, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Mount Hope Cemetery - 50 Jackson Avenue; Hastings on Hudson, NY (meeting directly at the cemetery).
