Elfriede Edith Erna (Schiemann) Utz

Elfriede Edith Erna (Schiemann) Utz, 89, of Bethel, wife of the late John K. Utz, died on Friday June 12 at her home.

Mrs. Utz was born on August 30, 1936 in Riesenberg, Germany and married John Utz on November 26, 1960. She became a naturalized US citizen on July 3, 2003. Her mother was Edith Erna Doring Schiemann of Norwalk and her father was Hermann Schiemann. Although she had no children of her own, she is survived by her stepson, Peter Utz from a previous marriage of John Utz and Olive Hastings. She also has a brother in law, David Parry of England.

John Utz was a builder and carpenter and the two built their home in Bethel from wood harvested from the property. Mrs. Utz was an avid gardener and canned many of her own vegetables. Her sweet pickles were highly sought after. Mrs. Utz worked as a sewing operator from 1957 to 1961, then became a lab assistant at Sperry Semiconductor from 1961 to 1968. 

A graveside service and interment will take place next to her husband, John on Monday, June 22, 2026 at 12:30 PM in Bald Hill Cemetery, Wilton. There will be no calling hours.
