Eileen Linnon Obituary

Eileen Theresa Linnon, of Ridgefield, CT passed away peacefully on March 27, 2021 with her daughter at her side. She was the loving wife of the late Robert Charles Linnon.

Mrs. Linnon was born on February 8, 1927 in East Orange, NJ; a daughter of the late Alfred and Clara (Walsh) Morgan. Eileen was the fourth child of five; she had three older sisters and a younger brother. She went to St. Leo Catholic Elementary School, later graduating from St. Vincent Academy in Newark, class of 1944. Eileen was a gracious and vivacious individual with more friends than can be counted. As everyone’s great friend and a good dancer, she attended 13 proms while in high school. She was an avid roller skater, winning trophies for her performances. While in high school she met Mr. Right, Bob Linnon, a student at St. Benedict’s Prep. When they graduated from high school, WWII was still underway. Bob entered the Navy and Eileen started working for Blue Cross/Blue Shield in Newark. They married in 1948 with only a motorcycle for transportation. They had one child, Patricia. Bob pursued a career in teaching. Eileen returned to the workforce at Maplewood Junior High School as an assistant in the guidance department. Their summers off gave the family the opportunity to stay in East Durham, NY, an Irish and Irish-American community in the Catskills. Years later Eileen became the Administrator in the Office of Graduating Seniors at the Ohio State University while Bob pursued his doctorate. Upon returning to NJ, Eileen started as the Executive Assistant of a department of 28 engineers at Automatic Switch Company, staying with the company for 10 years. Through the years, Eileen and her husband Bob became increasingly conscious of their Irish heritage, joining as active members of the Irish American Unity Conference (IAUC), an organization of Irish Americans dedicated to bringing a peaceful solution to the troubles in Northern Ireland.

A recent resident of Ridgefield, Mrs. Linnon previously resided in Boynton Beach, Florida with her late husband. Mrs. Linnon loved living in FL, referring to it as “My Florida”. Eileen became a very active volunteer, participating in the crafts group, served with COPS, a citizen’s patrol organization, We Care, dedicated to helping older seniors and served as a neighborhood co captain. She and Bob participated in the annual Variety Show. After her husband passed away in 2010, she became close friends with a great group of women who loved her and who took good care of each other. She had activities with them 6 of the 7 days of the week, many nights playing cards, her favorite. Most of all, she loved her family.
Mrs. Linnon is survived by her daughter, Patty, her grandson, James O’Connor and wife, Elliott and her great grandson, Casher. She has two surviving sisters-in- law. She will be missed by 39 nieces and nephews and their spouses.

Due to COVID 19 restrictions, a private funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday, April 10, 2021 at 10:00 AM at the St. Mary's Church School Hall, Ridgefield. There will be no calling hours; a memorial celebration will be celebrated in Ridgefield at a later date and another in Florida where she will be interred with her husband.
