Ted McCormick peacefully passed away on August 2, 2024.
Ted was born on December 29, 1939, in Washington, DC. He graduated from Rye High School, Rye, NY, in 1957. He attended Duke University, obtaining a Bachelor’s degree in Economics. He married the love of his life, Joanne Findlay. They started their married life in Tarrytown, NY and produced two amazing sons: Edward III, (Ted) and Richard (Rick).
Ted began his work career as a trader on Wall Street. He found his calling when he followed his passion of helping others. He worked with thousands of NYC parochial and collegiate students as well as many business leaders in the area. While embarking on this career, he was introduced to the sport of field hockey. This led to him being selected for the 1968 US Olympic Team. Unfortunately, this team did not qualify to compete in the games.
In 1971, he moved his young family to Ridgefield, CT, where he lived for the remainder of his life. Ted and a partner bought Modern Educational Systems and he spent the next thirty years teaching students of all abilities. Ted greatly enjoyed being involved in his sons’ lives. He coached them and their peers in Little League, joined the Ridgefield Youth Commission (serving as chairman) and co-founded one of the country’s earliest Safe Rides Programs, which continues to operate.
Upon his retirement, the next stage of his life began. He joined the Ridgefield Golf Course Senior Men’s League. This provided him an outlet for his competitive nature and he developed many lifelong friendships. This led to him joining the newly formed Men’s Club where he served on various committees, including the Newsletter, Wine Wizards, Program Director and Gourmet Luncheons. He became a President and served as a board member until his passing. From these experiences, Ted benefited from a sense of value, belonging, pride and worth, for the rest of his life.
Ted is survived by his loving wife of sixty-three years, Joanne, his son Ted III and wife Cheryl, and his cherished granddaughters, Kelly and Erin. Ted is predeceased by his parents, Edward and Ione, his brother Michael and his beloved son Richard.
Per Ted’s wishes, there will be no services. Donations may be made in his memory to the Ridgefield Professional Firefighters, “B Shift” 6 Catoonah St., Ridgefield, CT or Ridgefield Social Services, Emergency Fund, 400 Main St., Ridgefield, CT.
