Edmond John McElroy, 89, of Danbury, CT was born May 11, 1934, in Bronx, NY, and died peacefully on February 20, 2024 at Danbury Hospital.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James McElroy and Mary Ann Mulligan McElroy, as well as his beloved wife, Barbara Ann Gould McElroy. He was the youngest of eight children. He is survived by his five children: Jimmy McElroy, Marianne McElroy Palladino (Kendall Palladino), Kathleen McElroy Carlson (Don Carlson), John McElroy (Maureen Shanahan McElroy), and Tom McElroy. He has been blessed with 6 grandchildren: John Palladino, Aidan Palladino, Mark Carlson, Gavin Palladino, Brennan Palladino and MaryRose Palladino. He is also survived by his sister Agnes McElroy Hagan and numerous nieces, nephews, their children, and grandchildren.
Ed attended Marist College and began his career as a religious Brother, teaching at St. Helena’s High School, where he met the love of his life, Barbara Gould McElroy. After they married, they moved to Ridgefield, Connecticut and he became a math teacher at Darien High School. They were active members of St. Mary’s Parish in Ridgefield, CT and were busy raising five children.
Ed loved woodworking, meeting new people and being with his family, including those friends that he considered family. He was known for his sense of humor and telling stories. He always greeted everyone with a friendly smile, a big hello and a joke. He loved going to Sag Harbor, NY and Mecox Beach every summer for a family reunion to see his large extended family. Ed hosted large birthday celebrations for his 80th and 85th birthdays with his loved ones and was planning his 90th birthday party.
Family and friends will be received on Friday, March 1, 2024 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Kane Funeral Home; 25 Catoonah Street, Ridgefield.
A funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday, March 2, 2024 at 10:00 AM at Saint Mary's Church; 55 Catoonah Street, Ridgefield.
Interment will follow in Saint Mary's Cemetery; 110 North Street, Ridgefield.
