Dorothy McSpedon Obituary

Dorothy "Dottie" Helen McSpedon, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, died Saturday, June 7, leaving behind a lifetime of cherished memories and lasting impact on those who knew her. She was 89 and a resident of Ridgefield, CT.

Dottie was a lifelong sports enthusiast whose passion for athletics shone through her years playing and coaching softball, as well as her participation in a bowling league. She dedicated many years to the Town of North Castle (NY) Parks and Recreation Department, where she ran various programs, positively impacting countless lives. Later in her career, she continued her commitment to sports and community as a supervisor at the Sports Center at Doral Arrowwood.

A devoted New York Mets fan, Dottie rarely missed a game in the team's 60+ year history, cheering them on with unwavering enthusiasm.

Beyond her love for sports, Dottie was a gifted musician, playing multiple instruments, including the trumpet, organ, and accordion. As a teenager, she had the remarkable opportunity to play the accordion at Carnegie Hall—a testament to her talent and dedication.

She also found joy in tending to her gardens. When she wasn’t enjoying her home and family, she delighted in going on cruises and trips to Atlantic City, embracing adventure and shared experiences.

She is survived by her four children—daughters Wendy Daniels (Tim) and Michele Leo (John), sons Terrence and Matthew (Laura); eight grandchildren— Erin Gorey (David), Emily (Garik), Courtney, Ryan, Gregory, Julia, Addison, and Liam; and one great-granddaughter, Isla. She is also survived by her brother Kirk Baker (Susan), sisters in-law Louise McSpedon and Peggy McSpedon and many nieces and nephews, all of whom carry her memory forward with love. She was predeceased by her husband Frank as well as her parents, Frank and Genevieve Baker, and her brothers, Frank and John.

Dorothy's life was a beautiful blend of passion, dedication, and love for family, sports, music and nature. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her, but her spirit will live on in the many lives she touched.
