Dorothy Frances (Scott) Lockwood, 93, of Wilton, longtime resident of Ridgefield died peacefully on Wednesday, October 23, 2024. She was the loving wife of the late Harry O. Lockwood.
Dorothy was born in Wilton, CT on February 23, 1931 to Bryon and Emma Scott. She grew up in Wilton, attended Staples High School and graduated from the University of Connecticut Nursing Program in Storrs, CT. She continued her training at Norwalk Hospital until she left to raise her family.
Dorothy later did private duty nursing for former Vice President Henry Wallace, Mrs. Doubleday of Doubleday Books, Anne Richardson of Ridgefield and Elizabeth Ballard of Ridgefield.
Dorothy was a lifelong member of Jesse Lee Memorial United Methodist Church. It was there she met Harry, the love of her life. They were married on August 18, 1950. The couple enjoyed camping and square dancing with the Circle B Square Dance Club of Bethel. Their travels included three trips cross country and they also did a square dance demonstration at the 1964 World’s Fair in NYC.
Dorothy enjoyed reading, crocheting, watching the New York Mets, and spending time with family and friends. As a member of Deborah Circle at Jesse Lee she volunteered much of her time helping with the clothing sales, Pumpkin Patch and baking apple pies for the Yankee Peddler Fair. Dorothy will mostly be remembered by the hundreds of lap robes she crocheted and donated to area nursing homes.
Left to cherish her memory are her children and their spouses: Linda and Don Moody of Plattsburgh, NY, Bill and Joanne Lockwood of Newtown, CT and Dave and Diane Lockwood of Norwalk, CT; four granddaughters: Karen Moody, Kristen (Jonathan) Turek, Jaclyn (Steve) Houston and Amanda Lockwood as well as eight great-grandchildren: Eric, Keegan, Karter, Kassidy, Adelynn, Peyton, Oliver and Mirabella.
A funeral service in celebration of Dorothy’s life will take place on Monday, October 28, 2024 at 11:00 AM in Jesse Lee Memorial United Methodist Church, 207 Main Street; Ridgefield, CT. Interment will follow in Ridgefield Cemetery. There will be no calling hours.
