Doris Lubin Obituary

Doris Fisher Lubin of Danbury, CT, who had the incredible gift of 101 years in this world, passed away after a brief illness on January 28, 2026, at Danbury Hospital. She was surrounded by loved ones both throughout her life and during her final days. Born in Philadelphia on January 2, 1925, to Anna and Samuel Fisher, Doris was adoringly known to the people in her life as Mom, Nana, Gigi, Aunt Doris, or Dot, depending on the relationship.

Throughout her one hundred-plus years with us, Doris volunteered in a multitude of capacities, including at the Danbury Hospital gift shop for more than two decades. While working there, she brought comfort to many visitors who needed a kind person to offer warmth and support while they visited those close to them. Doris was just the compassionate person to do so.

Doris also spent close to thirty years singing in the choir at the United Jewish Center, where her lovely voice added beauty to countless services. The Brookfield Theatre was one of Doris’s greatest treasures; she spent several decades there as both an actress and a producer. She held leading and supporting roles in many musicals and dramas, including Carousel, The King and I, Fiddler on the Roof, Barnum, Annie Get Your Gun, and The Diary of Anne Frank. Her family loved her magnificent performances and cherished every opportunity to see her on stage. In addition, Doris was over the moon to land a small role in the 1968 film Rachel, Rachel, directed by Paul Newman.

Doris had other talents as well. As an entrepreneur, she and two friends opened Gallery7. They had so much fun helping customers choose extraordinary pieces of art to complement their homes and lifestyles. Many regulars who came in to browse enjoyed conversations with Doris and the other owners, deeply appreciating one another’s company.

Doris and her husband, Ed, were grateful for the opportunity to travel the world and loved meeting people from different countries and learning about their cultures. She appreciated the beauty in everything around her and shared the stories of their adventures with loved ones. They spent winters first in Scottsdale, AZ, and then Delray Beach, FL, while keeping their permanent home in Danbury, CT. Later in life, Doris transitioned to living in Danbury year-round to spend more time with her family.

While Doris was passionate about all her activities, what mattered most to her was her family and friends. She was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, cousin, and friend. Doris cherished every second she could soak up with the people she loved with all her heart.

Doris was predeceased by her beloved husband of 54 years, Edward; her brother, Herbert Fisher; and her brother-in-law, Allen Saltzberg. She was also predeceased by her friends Grace and Murray Brenner, Sally Rudick, and many other friends in Danbury, Florida, and Arizona.

She is survived by her 98-year-old sister, Marcia Fisher Saltzberg; her children: Wayne (Reet) Lubin, Harold (Debra) Lubin, Stephen (Elizabeth) Lubin, and Sandi Aronson Lubin; her friends Myrna Jacobs Rubin and Jay Tittman; and dozens of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Every single person in Doris’s life left a stamp on her heart, as she did on all of ours.
