Doris Kathleen Bendas

Doris Kathleen Bendas, 94, of Danbury, died peacefully on Tuesday, April 18, 2023. Mrs. Bendas was the loving wife of the late William Bendas.

Mrs. Bendas was born in Yonkers, NY on January 12, 1929; a daughter of the late John and Helen (Stecyk) McCarthy. She graduated from Sacred Heart High School in Yonkers.

Originally from Yonkers, NY; Mrs. Bendas was a resident of Shrub Oak, NY where she raised her family and lived for 65 years. Mrs. Bendas was a long time active parishioner and founding member of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Church and she also enjoyed golf, bird-watching, crafts and gardening.

Mrs. Bendas is survived by her children: Deborah Gatto and her husband, Richard and Gary Bendas. Mrs. Bendas is also survived by 5 grandchildren: Daniel, Christine, Michael, Priscilla and Emmanuel; 5 great grandchildren: Grayson, Logan, Quinn, Kellen and Clarise; and a sister, Jacqueline Murray.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Bendas was predeceased by a son, William Bendas and a daughter, Joyce Smith and brother James McCarthy.

Family and friends will be received on Sunday, April 23, 2023 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Jowdy-Kane Funeral Home; 9 Granville Avenue, Danbury. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, April 24, 2023 at 10:00 AM at Saint Joseph’s Church; 8 Robinson Avenue, Danbury. Interment will follow in Rose Hills Memorial Park; Putnam Valley, NY.
