Donald Wood Jr. Obituary

Donald Adams Wood, Jr., 74, of Brookfield, CT, passed away peacefully at home on April 24, 2026, with his family and friends at his side after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Born on March 21, 1952, in Danbury, CT, he was the son of Caroline and Donald Wood, Sr. Donald was raised in Bethel, CT, and was a proud graduate of Bethel High School where he was on track, band, and was voted class clown. He went on to dedicate over 30 years of service to the New York MTA.

Affectionately known as “Gaga”—a nickname lovingly coined by his first grandchild despite his original request to be called “Grandfather”—Donald will be remembered for his quick wit and dry sense of humor. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing in the Senior League at Candlewood Valley Country Club. In his prime, he also played with the men's softball league in Brookfield. A true handyman, Donald had a remarkable ability to fix just about anything and was always there when someone needed help. He loved sharing stories of his “fun times,” often weaving in meaningful life lessons that left a lasting impression.

In recent years, Donald took great pride in updating the family’s Vermont home, creating a warm and welcoming place for loved ones to gather. It became a special retreat for skiing, rest, and time together, offering beautiful views of the mountains and water—something he deeply enjoyed sharing with his family.

Donald is survived by his beloved wife of over 50 years, Kaye Wood; his daughters, Casey Wood and Morgan Wood; his son-in-law, Eric Grosspietsch; his four cherished grandchildren, Abby, Grady, Ellie, and Paige; his two sisters, Jean Bonsignore and her husband, Fred, and Lynn Newton and her husband, Richard; and his brothers-in-law, Steven Braun and John "Jack" Henry and his wife Kathy.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Kaye Braun.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the caregivers at MSK and RVNA/Hospice for their compassionate care and support.
