Dolores "Dee" Battipaglia, beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 31, 2026, in Danbury, Connecticut, at the age of 92.
Born on June 28, 1933, from the Bronx, Dee spent her early years there before moving to Danbury in 1970 with her late husband, Gerald Battipaglia. Together they built a life centered on family, hard work, and community.
For many years, Dee worked in Dining Services at Western Connecticut State University, where she became a familiar and welcoming presence to generations of students, faculty, and staff. Her kindness, warm smile, and dedication made her well known and appreciated throughout the campus community.
Dee enjoyed life's simple pleasures and remained a devoted fan of the New York Yankees throughout her life. She proudly cheered for the pinstripes every season and never lost her love for the game or Derek Jeter. She was also an admirer of Elvis Presley, whose music brought her joy for many years. Anyone who knew Dee knew her beautiful voice, she was always singing “Tomorrow” from Annie and you could smell her cookies from anywhere. She not only touched our hearts, but always made the holidays extra special with her trays of immaculate Italian cookies.
Above all, Dee treasured her family. She is survived by her son, Vincent Battipaglia, and his wife, Ellen; and by her cherished grandchildren, Jerry, Michelle, and Nicole. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Gerry Battipaglia.
Dee will be remembered for her warmth, loyalty, strong work ethic, and the love she shared with her family, friends and animals (including her dogs and the squirrels she fed every morning at the house). Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
Funeral services will take place on Wednesday morning, June 3, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Jowdy-Kane Funeral Home, 9 Granville Avenue, Danbury, Connecticut. Burial will immediately follow at St. Peter Cemetery in Danbury.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.
